Jim Richter
Приєднався 1 тра 2006
Jim Richter is a multi-instrumentalist who has focused on roots-based American music with a special focus on traditional electric & acoustic blues. Blues mandolin has truly been the niche Jim was meant to embrace. Though respectful of the blues mandolin pioneers, Jim has sought to expand blues mandolin repertoire though leveraging his background as an electric blues guitarist. Jim has become recognized as one of the leaders in this area. Jim’s extensive knowledge of guitar-based classic rock has led him to transcribe/arrange many tunes for mandolin that show how versatile the mandolin can be in reimagining rock tunes. Jim is most proud of the work he has done in mandolin education especially for adult learners. Jim developed the Richter Mandolin Camp that focuses on 3 areas: 1) instruction for the non-bluegrasser, 2) adult learners who need a different approach & 3) teaching students how to harness what they already know to build self-efficacy and immediate use of that knowledge.

Appalachian Rain - Jim Richter, 1929 GIbson Royal P-T Flathead Banjo
Переглядів 3,9 тис.4 місяці тому
The great Ben Eldridge (Seldom Scene) tune played on my newly acquired 1929 Gibson P-T Flathead banjo. Banjo has an original high profile lightweight flathead tone ring. All original pot with neck by Frank Neat (nut and overlay from original neck). I was greatly influenced by Eldridge growing up and love having a banjo from the same batch as his P-T (I’m 9242-9; his was 9242-5). JimRichter.com ...

beautiful, thanks Jim!

Thanks!
I am a song remains the same fan . Also, listening to your channels 2009 octave mandolin rain song recording. I was imagining that Mr Jimmy page had used a mandolin while writing the song(s)
Hi Jim. I’m sure I’m tuning to concert pitch but I’m nearly a semitone sharp to what I’m hearing from the video.
Mandolin is not at concert. It’s actually a hair flat. I’d changed the strings earlier that day and think they were still settling in. My apologies that it’s not exactly at pitch
I listen to this at least once a week. Its one of my bucket list items to learn this song on my Mendel Octave Mandolin. Stellar cover and beautiful tone, Jim.
Thanks so much! Have you heard the newer version from last year? ua-cam.com/video/clp_LQIDVlQ/v-deo.htmlsi=wruO-QzL8w9qEe3W
Hello Jim, it never occurred to me that Jimi Hendrix would sound could be interpreted as Blue Grass but you have done it. I like it, would love to hear an ensemble play "Angel". Thanks for the post.
Many thanks!
This is good, but Josh Turner’s version is all the round better. It may be a result of better recording equipment, but the tonal quality doesn’t allow the notes to sing out clearly d
Thx for the comment. Different instrument played through an iMac camera
'Promosm' 😃
I’ve just looked you up again after about 10 years. You’re getting really good on that mandolin now! Still rocking the dungarees too. Il check out all your other tuition videos now. I’ve not played at all since getting married. I wanna pick it Up again.
I absolutely love this one!
Great stuff, Jim!
Dynamite. I would love to hear you take a chorus. The tone on that axe is something else! Warm, loud, even, full….. the way I’d always thought a Grand Artist should sound. Makes me want to learn!
Thanks! Appreciate it. I was going to have a backing track to do a chorus but then just kept it simple
beautiful, even if you have outfit of perhaps the most hillbilly to ever hillbilly /j
nice job Jim, One of Bill's great numbers!
Thx! Recorded a long time ago!
The Monte sounds fine Jim!
Appreciate coming from a fine mandolinist like yourself!
Hey Jim, I really appreciate you putting these video's out, unfortunately, I can't support you financially, but I always give you a like and leave a positive message. Please keep up your tremendous efforts, I have been watching, learning and enjoying your video's for donkey's years. Cheers mate as always, much love from the uk :)
No worries! As always appreciate your support!

Magic... Love...
Great rendering
Great video, what a great bunch of mandolins 👍
Hey Jim, ace to see another of your videos, winging it's way into my feed. (Did you see what I did there!!! :) ) Thank you so much, love n hugs from the uk
Very cool video! Thought all 3 of them sounded great. Enjoyed the comparison
Yeah part two! Thanks Again Jim!
Yow. Thats putting it that way..
Thanks for making this Jim! Can't wait to sink my teeth in to this one
Any time!
Thanks this is going to be fun to learn!
You bet!
Fantastic!
Many thanks!
Welcome back Jim! Your creativity has been missed. Nice mandolin.
Thx!
Great looking banjo Jim. Another old Gibson in the area!
We need to get together!
Very nice Jim. Banjo sounds great. Can't wait to see it up close
Thanks Bob!
☀️
Amazing
Johnny Young is my favorite!! I don’t read music or even know what 2-3-5 &7th. Maybe I’m dyslexic because that sounds like another language. My favorites are Johnny Young, Rich Delgrosso and YOU!!
Hey Jim!
Awesome 🎉 Kudos to you!!
Truly amazing, Very impressive! 🎉
Still listening to this video in November of 2023. Great job 👏 🎉
Can you do one on a Howlin Wolf song?
Sure. I’ve done some like I ain’t superstitious and tail dragger. You have one in mind?
Super John
Absolutely!
Johnny Young is the BEST!!
I’m 70 and learning mandolin. I’ve watched you many years ago and keep going back to that old video with you in your overalls playing rock and roll. You are absolutely one of my favorites!! When everyone else is in a rut playing bluegrass you show us there’s so much more this instrument can do. Rich Delgasso is another one I’ve searched and tried to follow. I finally found his book and I bought it. You guys are doing what no one else out there does!!! I want to play so bad but it’s hard to find a teacher. Keep up the good work my friend. You are appreciated!!!
Im a guitar player but have so many issues with mandolin & other less string instruments
What problem are u having?
Impeccable! Thanks, Jim!
Thank you. Love those open tunings.
I have the same pill bottle slide. What tuning are you using here?
F# D A D
Love it Jim! Might you be doing any instructional vids for the slide, please?
